If you really love pasta – and what's not to love about pasta – there's a special day to celebrate it: National Pasta Day, which was yesterday, October 17. There are many kinds of pasta – from angel hair to ziti – and several types of pasta are among the favorite entrées in the U.S. according to YouGov's ranking of The Most Popular American Dishes. Lasagna is ranked #2 behind chocolate chip cookies (can't argue with that), earning an 82% popularity ranking. Spaghetti with meatballs comes in at #5 (80%), just ahead of burritos. Ravioli and macaroni and cheese land spots #7 (78%) and #8 (78%), respectively; pasta with tomato sauce is at #11 (75%).
So, at this week’s wine pairing and pouring, Arny will be preparing pasta with Carfagna’s homemade vodka sauce. The vodka releases flavors in the tomato that are normally inaccessible resulting in this tomatoey sauce. It is creamy, cheesy, and very rich, made with fresh real cream. The chosen wines for the evening are Pasqua Passimento Rosso, a blend of Corvina and Croatina grapes with a percentage of Merlot, vinification takes place separately in steel tanks and the wine is then aged in oak barrels for 3 months; Chateau Fontaine Chardonnay, a fruit-forward Chardonnay with luscious flavors of light citrus, ripe figs and spice with a rich, almost creamy texture accented by a light touch of grapefruit and crisp finish; and Huber Hugo Sparkling Rose, from Austria, it is light salmon in color with fresh hints of cherries and forest berries with a sophisticated note of citrus.
Join us tonight as we pay tribute to one of the most delicious and versatile foods ever. Scatola Di Pasta will be open if you decide you need MORE PASTA!
